He then pleads that bring back the respectable Black woman while saying “Run run run, come back for my glory/Bring her back to me/Run run run, the crown of our pharaoh/The throne of our queen is empty.” The song then takes an interesting shift in tempo and the darker beat matches Frank’s lyric content as he talks about a stripper who he epitomizes as the modern day Black woman. Cleopatra is the symbol of beauty, independence, and a Queen, she also happened to Black and Frank starts the song off by alarming his listeners that “There’s a thief out on the move/Underneath our legion’s view/They have taken Cleopatra”.
Perhaps I’m reading waaay too much into the lyrics and content of "Pyramids”, but I think that Frank Ocean is singing about the transformation of the Black woman from the earliest of civilization to today. “Frank Ocean has always been one of the smarter artists in music and I think this song is a great representation of his geniusness.
